COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL/ONLINE STRATEGY Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting. The Director of Digital/Online Strategy serves as primary leader for digital/online communications for Columbia College Chicago and directs efforts to use the college's website and new media to tell the institution's story and support its brand and marketing and communications efforts. The Director provides leadership, strategic planning, web development, and consulting services to the entire college; coordinates the execution and maintenance of all new media projects; and supervises staff and student workers. Additional responsibilities include providing leadership, crafting strategy and devising policies for effective web-based marketing communications, with an emphasis on using new media to build and sustain relationships; providing strategic consultation, planning, and assisting in the incorporation of blogs, podcasts, social media, and other technology into operations; and managing day-to-day operation of the college website, including content and custom application development, application programming, and interface design. This role works collaboratively with a variety of departments including IT, Creative and Printing services (in-house design team), and Marketing and Communications to facilitate effective web communications.
To qualify, a Bachelor's degree is required, with a minimum of eight years of experience building commercial or non-profit websites, including all aspects of information architecture, content development, communications strategy, and application programming. An understanding of higher education marketing and standard practices and strategies for college/university websites is strongly preferred. Candidates must also possess an advanced working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Web browsers; strong computing skills, including basic UNIX file management skills (Max OS X, Linux, other Unix based servers; Apache configuration and basic shell scripting); and strong knowledge of Flash and streaming media.
